Pulau Ubin Nature Walk
There is a lot more to Pulau Ubin than just sleepy kampongs (villages). This was once an island frontier where secret societies extorted money from shopkeepers, convicts with ‘M’s’ for murderer tattooed on their foreheads sweated under the watchful gaze of their colonial masters, where a young girl ran frightened into the jungle one night only to meet a tragic fate, and where an armed robbery went horribly wrong. It was also the first piece of Singapore territory occupied by the Japanese in 1942. Find out more on a journey back in time where you will wander through a secret garden, discover the mangrove trails of Chek Jawa, and explore an old Tudor house where a lonely civil servant once dreamed of old Blighty in front of an empty fireplace. Forgotten stories, legends, and mysteries will be uncovered during this visit to Singapore’s last rural haven where a whole way of life is quickly disappearing.
